Time to Wake UP Jostein Gaarder said, “A state that does not educate and train women is like a man who only trains his right arm.” Anyone who does not live in Lebanon will think that women are treated fairly in this country. It is true that the Lebanese women have successfully gained more rights and moved steps towards emancipation, but they are still unfairly treated, suffering from problems of inequality with men; domestic violence and other gender discrimination issues. In 1953,the Lebanese women obtained their most important citizenship rights which are voting and participating in national elections. This allows them to participate in the presidential and parliamentary elections they want ;therefore, they will be able to express their points of view and not to feel countless. Before 1960, the Lebanese women had to lose their Lebanese citizenship in case they desire to marry foreigners. After that date, the law granted the Lebanese women the right to choose their nationality after marriage. In addition, this was followed, in the year 1974 with the right of women to travel without the need of a consent from their husbands. The year 2000 was an unforgettable year for Lebanese women concerning labor law. Major implementations in the labor law made the female employees equal in the rights and responsibilities with male employees and discrimination between genders has been eliminated. Above all, they protected the female worker to practice her natural rights as a mother. As a result, they extended the maternity leave right to the mother worker to become ten weeks. In the following year, more rights have been issued ; female employees started to benefit from the system of retirement and pension. Regarding the concept of equality between men and women, they declared the right of Lebanese women to benefit from educational grant bestowed to her by the government. Nowadays ,in 2014, Lebanese women continue demonstrating and using all the democratic ways to get all their rights. However, women still suffer from inequality concerning personal status. They are threatened by divorce, children’s custody and domestic violence. The nationality law still also forbids the Lebanese mother marriage to foreigners and the transfer of woman's nationality to her children. Moreover, working women do not profit from social security benefits and family compensation like men. In conclusion, the Lebanese government is asked to go for more equality and for a better treatment of women. This can result in more economic growth and social security as women are also creative and ambitious like men. While world is going toward globalization, we can’t continue arguing issues of discrimination between genders instead of moving ahead .

No More Crimes Some car accidents are fatal ,and some leave passengers with lifelong problems. Car accidents are among the leading factors contributing to the incessant death rate rise. Car accident is the gruesome crime that abducts the millions of dreaming souls every day. Car accidents are the catastrophic and grievous ramifications of the simplest mistake that steals the opportunity of life from different ages and communities . There are many reasons that lead to the disastrous boost in the rate of car accidents. The increment in the rate of car accidents is a dangerous problem that daily menaces/threatens the life of everyone. There are many factors that lead to this problem. To begin with, exceeding the speed limit is an easy way to render a car accident. The faster you drive, the slower you react to prevent an auto accident. The second quick path to die by a car accident is alcoholism. Drinking while driving is one of the top causes of car accidents because binge drinking makes the drivers out of control ,so they might hurt innocent people as well as themselves. This will ravage the drivers' or passengers' bodies, and such accidents make them jobless or lead them to jail. Another unconscious mistake that destroys people’s life is texting while driving. For instance, according to National Safety Council (NSC) website, using cell phones while driving leads to about 245,358 car crashes in the U.S. this year. Moreover, distractions are the most livable causes of car accidents. The majority of those behind the wheel let things such as another passenger, radio, or a smoke distracts them. Therefore, they become not fully focusing while driving ,and accidents tend to occur and ,accordingly, jeopardize their life and others' life .Eventually, traffic and bad roads in Lebanon exemplify the agony of the Lebanese drivers who are reckless. For example, traffic fosters the aggression of the Lebanese drivers who tend to commit more blunders and increase the potential of car accidents. These hazardous reasons impact a lot of momentous time in drivers' life. The vehicle accidents lead to severe injuries or a loss of life, economic difficulties, and psychological problems. For one thing, the number of car accidents victims far exceeds that of the wars and terrorist operations ones in the world. For instance, car accidents kill about 300 thousand people and injure about 10 to 15 million annually. Secondly, car accidents cause the vehicle's damage which leads to many repair costs, medical treatment; insurance costs, and permanent or contemporary reduction in income because the injuries usually make the drivers jobless. Moreover, in the case of injuries ,family will have to sustain the medical burden ,and in the case of death, family may be economically vulnerable. Finally, vehicle accidents can result in drivers and passengers suffering short or long-term psychological injuries such as emotional distress, posttraumatic stress disorder, persistent anxiety and depression. These psychological injuries can influence every facet of a person’s life and have long-lasting effects. In conclusion , car accidents are high stake problems that steal the life of many; numerous silly mistakes like small distraction can contribute to such catastrophic problems that leave indelible consequences on people. Thus, to increase your heartbeat, decrease your mistakes and drive carefully to escape from death.

Sarah Hanna Journal First time It is said, "Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together." It was 2 years ago when I went with my family to play on the Snow Mountains. I was so excited and happy, and it was the first time my brother would be seeing snow. We arrived to Farayya, and as usual the view was breathtaking, and the snow was glittering like crystals under the bright sun. Time passed, and suddenly tiny white dots began falling. It was snowing! It was the first time in my life l saw and felt the amazing snow falling. I started to think how amazing the nature is, and especially snow falling smoothly and quietly over my body . This delightful feeling made me feel very happy and amazed how great our Lord is. Not only because of what happened then, but also due to the beauty of each tiny snowflake that would not be as beautiful as when it would stick with the other snowflake to create the amazing view we enjoyed. Nature can bestow people with true and momentous experiences should they learn how to tune their hearts to its beauty and harmony.

One day, years before when I was 17 years old, I was riding my bicycle on my way home. It was a rainy day, around 6 o'clock in the afternoon. Suddenly, I opened my eyes and saw myself lying on a bed in the hospital. The scene felt like a dream. I could not remember anything at first. Trying to explain what happened , my mom was beside me; she was shedding her tears for the fact that I had a terrible accident. Hit by an unknown car that had escaped, I was very close to losing my life; after several hours, I started to realize the situation I was in. The accident had a strong impact on my entire body. It broke my leg, injured my head and paralyzed my hand. It was horrible and hard to believe to my family. The doctors and the nurses took good care of me. As I was thinking about my condition, I realized that life for me had changed. It was a new start, a new life and a challenging path to follow. I was reborn. da

Women…Smarter Than Men ! Virginia Woolf, Orlando said ,"A woman knows very well that, though a wit sends her his poems, praises her judgment, solicits her criticism, and drinks her tea, this by no means signifies that he respects her opinions, admires her understanding, or will refuse, though the rapier is denied him, to run through the body with his pen.” Women are better than men at multitasking but not as good as men when it comes to reading a map. Undeniably ,men and women have differences in behavior ;they have different brain structures, but the question that has been raised since the dawn of history is :who’s smarter? men or women? like the advocates of feminism,women should be treated on equal basis with men due to their great achievements in diverse fields . It is believed that the two hemispheres of the brain probably work differently. The left side helps us think analytically, while the right side helps us look at things as a whole, involving value judgments and emotion. Men are more likely to be "left-brain dominant" while women are thought to use both hemispheres more equally and that is the main reason for the multitasking function that women has. A woman can do up to four tasks at the same time while men are able to do one take at once and that’s what gives women the advantage of being smarter. Moreover if we check scientific history we find that the great discovery of nuclear cell was made by the amazing chemist and physicist Marie Skłodowska-Curi and this discovery is one of the most important scientific discoveries ever made thanks to a woman. Also science has proven that women are smarter after making a brain scan study of women and men and comparing between both, it was found that blood flows in 112 out of 128 regions of the women’s brain indicating that women’s brains are more active than men’s. In addition women are also found to behave less recklessly than men, and in essence live longer because they are more careful about their behavior. They also have a lower instance of having a disease such as ADD or anti-social personality disorders. Women’s brains showed a higher level of activity in the prefrontal cortex which is often referred to as the CEO of the brain because of its many functions. It takes care of organization, planning, impulse control and learning from mistakes. Men’s brains showed more activity in the regions that deal with visualization, form recognition, and tracking objects through space. This does not mean necessarily that one gender is brighter than the other; it simply means that the brains operate differently between the two genders. In conclusion I like to say that women are as smart as men and more but since through history women were treated as slaves and used as a sex machines for men they couldn’t evolve and didn’t have the chance to participate in the previous scientific discoveries but nowadays we can see the change in levels and notice the Superiority of women in different and extreme fields and everyone who still thinks that men are smarter than women must reconsider his thoughts and redo his math.

Our societies are suffering from hundreds of problems even though the progress is reaching its peak. Car accidents are one of the most serious problems that we hear about nowadays. Obviously, this harmful disease has many causes and effects on our life in all its dimensions. The causes leading to car accidents are countless and unambiguous, and they are often related to the driver and his behavior. Speed driving is the major cause of these accidents ;there are limits of speed that drivers ignore. People always tend to achieve their undertakings quickly ,and they like the speed in everything, so they consider that driving fast is beneficial and contributes to saving time. However, this speed is disastrous in many other aspects . In addition, drinking alcohol before or while driving is another cause of car accidents. The horrible alcohol drinking causes lack of consciousness that is required while driving .Moreover, texting while driving is also a cause of car accidents. Today , “WhatsApp” allows people to chat simultaneously for hours and hours with low cost; furthermore, bad roads which are full of digs and the equilibrium defects of the car are also considered a cause of car accidents because they cause the fall down of the car. Clearly, statistics show that the percentage of car accidents caused by roads in the developed countries is less than that in the third world countries where the roads are too bad ;there are no studies of roads. The causes of car accidents are endless, and day after day ,they are becoming more serious. Car accidents is gradually increasing with the advance of technology which becomes more progressed and creates new factors that render car accidents . In the 1800s, there were simple cars with modest speed for one or two people . These kinds of cars are less dangerous preventing driving fast. However, today there are many kinds of cars with high speed .The speed of a normal car nowadays can reach 240 km/h which is a horrible speed and definitely it causes accidents. Unfortunately, there are a lot of effects resulting from car accidents such as death, cars crash, and wounded persons. Obviously, death is the worst result of car accidents. The percentage of death results from such accidents increases with the increase of the speed the driver reaches and the danger of crash. In addition, car crashes are another effect, a physical effect ,of car accidents. Car accidents sometimes lead to complete destruction of the car which needs high costs to be repaired and sometimes it can’t be. Moreover, car accidents cause injures and wounds that are sometimes serious. They don’t always cause temporal wounds, and their effects can reach disabilities which are permanent and change completely the life. The effects of car accidents are dangerous and harmful, and they can reach the death . Last but not least, car accidents aren’t a minor problem we can ignore and avoid; they are one of the most serious problems in the society that harm all people, and everyone is threatened by it. Therefore, we should be conscious ,and we should drive meticulously because there are a lot people we love ,and they need us alive.

The world would be a much better place were there fewer accidents . Nowadays, accidents happen daily and regularly . One of the most popular daily accidents in the world is the car accident. Car accidents leave pain for the victims’ families .Many people think that they will never get involved in car accidents, but car accidents have many human and uncontrollable causes. Car accidents also lead to many tragic effects for the accident parties, so what causes the problem? There are many different reasons for car accidents; distraction while driving is an important car accident cause. The drivers set their eyes on something else and get into crush with another car ,wall or anything .Currently ,cell phones applications are the only reason for the driver's distraction on the road .The ignorance ,the lack of knowledge of the driver ,can be a reason for the accident .Maybe, driving while the red signal is on, can lead to a mortal accident .Another momentous reason is drinking while driving. People do not know how dangerous it is to drive when they are drunk ,and being drunk means that drivers are out of control .The fatigue of driving for many hours leads to car accidents .The exhausted driver falls asleep without noticing himself and get an accident with other vehicles .The high speed is also one of the reasons of accidents .When people drive fast ,any unexpected movement can make the car out of the road, kill the speedy driver and hurt other innocent people on the road . As such, it is the driver's responsibility to be alert and aware of reckless drivers on the road. There is no solution for car accidents. This problem isn’t an individual problem so the solution can be by conducting awareness campaigns to the whole community. Everyone should obey the rules to avoid the accidents. A person dies in a car accident every twelve minutes, and each year , car crashes kill 40,000 people only in USA .The other major effect is the injuries ,the durable injuries .Most of car accidents sufferers have paralysis after the accident . The economical side is an important effect of car accidents too .Every car accident has his price, and his price is the value of the cars damaged and other things that can be near the road during the accident. Psychological problems are another important effect. The recent studies show that most of car accidents sufferers have big psychological problems which can be lifelong ;they can recall the last seconds before the accident . The effects of car accidents can’t be useful on any account. In conclusion, car accidents have many causes and many effects .Causes and effects aren't harmful only for the driver, but also for the people around him/her. The Drivers’ Nightmare During the road from the university to my home, I faced many traffic jams. They were obviously caused by car accidents. Most of these accidents were dangerous, painful, and mortal. For example, the metal spread on the streets, and the ambulance tried hard to access the victims and injuried. As such, that event made me curious to learn about the the causes and the effects of car accidents. I realized that the reasons for car accidents could be the high speed, drinks, bad roads, texting, and phone calls. The effects are several and many such as death ,physical damages and violent injuries The reasons of car accidents are different and multiple. First of all, many car accidents happened due to the high speed. The high speed made the driver lose the complete control over the car, and it ends in a harmful accident. In addition, when the driver drinks much alcohol, his behavior becomes uncontrolled. Therefore, the possibility of making car accident increases. Moreover, the bad roads are an important factor for causing accidents. The nature of roads and their forms make problems for the driver to deal with. Furthermore, texting takes the driver’s attention; it also leads to many accidents. As same as texting, phone calling affects the focusing of the driver. Consequently, the car accident happens. In sum, the majority of car accidents happen due to irresponsibility and recklessness of the driver. The recklessness and the absence of punishments from the government render more and more accidents. Furthermore, the ancient and the abeyance of traffic law has its influence on the increasing number of accidents. All the above mentioned reasons jeopardize the society. The car accident has several and diverse effects. First, most of car accidents end in death which has a significant and melancholic impact on the parents and the friends. Second, the accidents are the source of painful and violent injuries. For example, many drivers became handicapped after the accidents, and these injuries stayed with them for their entire life. Third, if the accident causes the death of someone, the driver punishment should usually be the prison. Frequently, this period is long; the driver cannot avoid it only except by paying a huge amount of money. Next, the government takes fees as a result of the accident. Im most cases, the fees are high and difficult to cover. Finally, after the accidents, the cars became completely destroyed and damaged. Thereby, the car’s owner should buy another one or try to fix his car and the other's car. Eventually , we should be aware of the car accidents because they are violent and risky. To conclude, the causes of car accidents seem to be high speed, alcohols , poor road constrictions, texting, and phone calls. The effects of car accidents are diverse such as death, injuries, prison, taxes , and cars’ distraction. The traffic law should be more serious, and the surveillance should be more efficient.

Car accident is one of the momentous causes that put people’s life in danger every second when they are on the road. Although the high degree of protection and safety reached by technology that facilitates life, millions of people die every year because of car accidents. For that reason, people should be aware of the causes and effects of this serious issue. Despite the traffic law and the signs that are spread along the roads in Lebanon, some people don’t respect them. First, they drive unconsciously, so fast without care. Thus, the high speeding level is a killer. It takes guys and girls in their prime of life; it steals their dreams, the happiness of their families. In addition, it causes the death of innocent people. Recently, I have lost a friend because of a car accident. He is a 20 years old guy who has many dreams he wants to accomplish. He had driven very fast without thinking about anything. He hadn’t thought about his mother and what she will do if something bad happens to him. Furthermore, he hadn’t thought about his father, and what he will do when he loses his only child who depends on. He had passed away in a mysterious situation. His parents still till now haven’t understand what have happened and how in seconds they have lost their child. Texting and calling while driving compose another major cause of car accident. Using cell phones while driving is very risky; it keeps the driver distracted and reckless. He puts his head inside this small machine and forgets himself; he doesn’t pay attention to the cars, traffic signals and human beings on the road. In addition to playing with cell phones, the driver can lose attention on the road by playing with the radio or CD. Consequently, he can kill a person, lose his life or get harmful injuries and have a big collision. Besides physical damages that result from these huge accidents, there are catastrophic financial damages too. Nowadays, as we know the cars cost a huge amount of money if we want to buy one. Its accessories cost a lot if we want to buy original ones, so due to an accident and surely considering its intensity, a large part of the car will be deteriorated that cost a big amount of money. The weather and being drunk while driving contribute to disastrous accidents. First, the driver, in stormy, rainy and snowy nights, can lose the control of his car if he is driving so fast or driving slowly. Thus, people should always equip their cars with all materials that need in similar situations. Second, people who want to go out at night and drink should not drive after the party even if they haven’t drunk a lot of alcohol. They should go back to their home in a taxi. For that purpose, there is a famous association named “Kunhadi” concerned with this issue. This organization has been held because of a guy who had passed away in a car accident, so his mother decides to constitute it to make people aware how this issue is hazardous. Thus, all people and especially the youth should drive safely to don’t hurt their mother’s hearts. In conclusion, people should drive safely and slowly because an accident happens in a fraction of a second. They should think about their mothers and their families while driving because no one wants to hurt mothers’ and fathers’ hearts. A major cause of automobile accidents is failure of drivers to abide by speed limit laws. Many drivers don't realize that speed limits are carefully chosen to allow for certain contingencies, such as weather conditions, sudden turns and the visibility of certain roads. Obviously, if one exceeds the speed limit it reduces the time in which that driver has to react to any contingency that may occur on the road. People speed for many different reasons, and being in a rush to get to a place in a specific time is one of the reasons. This happens because people may be late for an appointment or meeting. When the driver is speeding he or she has limited control over the car. At times there will be a sudden traffic on the road. The driver who is speeding cannot stop quickly which leads to collision. In addition, statistics showed that the risk of involvement in a casualty doubles with each 5km/hr. increase in free travelling speed above 60km/hr. and a 5km/hr. reduction in speed can lead to at least 15% decrease in crashes. Other major cause is distraction, which means the absence of your attention, such as looking away for split or using a mobile phone. Texting or Calling someone while driving. This problem affects the adults more than others. For example, statistics showed that 27% of adults have sent or received text messages while driving, and about 30% of young drivers have seen their parents text or call while driving. Furthermore, drinking while driving also leads to the absence of attention. Taking more than two cups alcohol makes us lose our attention while driving. Moreover, according to estimates by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The relative risk of death for drivers in single-vehicle crashes with high blood alcohol content is 385 times that of a zero-blood alcohol content driver and for male drivers the risk is 707 times that of a sober driver. Car accidents can be caused by external reasons. We can notice that the percentage of car accidents in the winter is higher than any other time of the year. Eventually, sometimes car accidents are caused by technical problems such as a hole in the cupboard.as effects, traffic accidents lead to serious cases such as the paralysis and in many time causes the death and sometimes cause the death of people had nothing to do with the accident. Last but not least, car accidents are a high stakes problem. We have to find serious solutions for this problem, or we are going to lose more and more people. It’s important to adhere the laws to decrease the percentage of car accident, and our duties are to check our cars everyday to get rid from the external reasons.

Anyone in a vehicle is in risk, the risk of car accidents. Yearly, thousands of people die and get injured due to car accident. Unfortunately, some causes of car accidents can be avoided but not all. As a result, more injuries and death can occur. However, car accidents still have several causes with various effects. Texting while driving has had the highest rate of car accidents’ causes. That has been why there has been an NGO called "Youth Association for Social Awareness" (YASA) ,working on many fields to raise the awareness of people about this issue. For instance, there has existed numerous billboards on the border of many roads on which drivers can easily notice the following precise remark "avoid texting while driving". In addition, my friend has passed away due to this snag. Going back, on April 2013, I lost my friend because he was chatting using his phone. When he was driving, he did not pay attention to the border of the street, so he went outside the road and passed away upon having a crash with a tree. Moreover, there was a study ,conducted by Honda Company in 2013, indicating that the risk to make mistakes and have an accident has increased tremendously when the driver texted. Drinking while driving can also contribute to rendering a car accident. In fact, the 31 December of each year has the highest rate of car accidents since people drink a lot on such a day. For instance, last year, the ministry of interior tried to solve this problem by offering free taxi to get people from their places to their homes. Moreover, statistics show that most serious road accidents are caused by drinking while driving, according to the head of the Traffic Experts’ Association. Likewise, “Even when there are accidents ,they will record if there has been dangerous driving or speeding but not drink driving. According to the Youth Association for Social Awareness (YASA),there is almost zero implementation of this law,” complained Gebran,the head of YASA.. Speed, like drinking and texting, has equal importance in raising the rate of car accidents. For this reason, the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities had used to put radars across the roads to make sure that people will not exceed the limit of speed. For instance , my cousin got around five speed tickets ,each amounting more than 50,000 LL. In addition, speeding makes the driver unable to control the car like what happened yesterday. There was a person named Bakker ,who was going home at an extremely high speed on a tiny road;therefore, he could not control the car when the speed reached 160 Km/h and had crashed into the wall. Additionally, brakes did not help enough in such sudden cases. As a conclusion, texting, drinking, and speeding while driving are causes of car accident. Even if death and injuries are the two popular effects, there will be many other causes that have many different effects in diverse fields. For example, when someone drives at 100 Km/h- which is the highest limit of speed permitted by law- he needs 11 meters to stop. This was for 100 Km/h, but what about more than 100 Km/h? The question remains as follows: When will people respect laws and will understand that these laws are issued only for their help?

Name: Layal Jarrah Your teacher punishes the whole class because one student misbehaved. How do you feel about this? Think about reasons you feel this way. Unfair Punishment Will Durant said ," Education is a progressive discovery of our ignorance. "The attitude of a student differs from one to another; therefore ,it’s unfair that the whole class will be treated the same. As such, it will drastically reflect on the well –behaved students for several reasons .First and foremost , highly –mannered students will turn into ill-mannered ones when they feel that they are unfairly treated; the attitude of the well -behaved students will be influenced by the unfairness of the teacher. The whole class will be considered as a misbehaved one, so the class reputation will be jeopardized in the whole university; therefore, the grades of the whole class will be noticeably low whenever the teacher is treating his/her students unjustly. For instance, a study conducted in 2013 has indicated that the students who get exposed to verbal and unfair treatment will encounter prospective problems which will cause them major damages. Another study has revealed that the students who are subjects for discrimination will tend to be discriminatory people later on. Trouble making students shouldn’t be addressed on the same grounds of the behaved ones. Students' issues can’t be weighed on tantamount basis ; therefore ,professional teacher should always differentiate between the behaved students and misbehaved ones. For example, students' characters determine people's responses and reactions towards them, and this has been clearly shown in many recent studies. Another important example is my friend who has lost interest in school after being mistreated by his teacher.
