Masks we wear
Masks we wear
On May 24, 2012, a short film, written and directed by KJ Adams was produced. An Award winning for inspirational short film "identity" is a project made to the youth in schools. "Living in a world everybody wears masks due to lack of self identity, a brave girl encounters the truth that sets her free" JK Adams says.
It begins with the girl saying "Today, I found the truth". The film shows us a teacher informing the students including the girl about "Plato's allegry of the cave", talking about human beings who live in a cave and don't see but a dark wall, because they have never been outside. Until that day, when one man had realized the fault, and he discovered a whole new world outside, and because he was now the unlighted one, his job was to come and free those that still trapped in the cave. The girl then, lifts her had with hope... Everyone was wearing a mask, in that hall she where she was walking, staring to all those students around her, lost. Then comes that scene, showing the most important idea in this film: a yellow masked girl on a picture was the ideal of beauty, whiles all the other people wearing a yellow mask, were combined around her with arrogant. After that, she looks to a girl with a white mask, who removed it quickly, to a purple one, so that she can talk to a group wearing a purple mask.. The girl, as we can see, was lost in her mind; she knew that there was something going wrong around the world, but she couldn't find it well, till that day.. She ran to the restaurant’s bathroom, fell down, and broke her mask by mistake.. She released there was a real face under the mask, and she removed it, after a little hesitation, she saw her face and smiled and said: "Today, the truth f found me".
That film, as I think, didn't win the award for the best inspirational short film by coincidence, it has a message, guided every human, not just students, telling him to be himself, not what the others want him to be... To act like what his behavior tells him to act, not what TV shows him. The identity isn't just about name, sex, and language, the identity is about how everyone thinks and believes. "I think, so I exist “Carl Marks once said, so we shouldn't let the others on our behalf, the identity shows that we really are, and if we lose our personal thoughts and beliefs, we lose our identity.
