Jinan Jouni :Please Save Me!
Please Save Me!
The shouts and shrieks fill the injured streets and the slogans occupy the first pages of newspapers claiming for innovating a solution and saving the country. Lebanon is bleeding from the injuries the politician and the public have scratched. It is sinking in a sea of blood and needs a fleet to pull it to the surface and remedy it. The life in Lebanon has become a peril that threaten the inhabitants and the tourists. Throughout many decades, Lebanon is living in insecure and dangerous situation that refers to plentiful causes and that affects the Lebanese life as entire.
Since the civil war of 1975, Lebanon is sorrowing from the act of fanaticism and sectarianism that pervades the heart of the inhabitants and implants the malice in their intentions. Because Lebanon is composed of more than 18 distinct sects from different religions, living on the same land may produce conflicts among these residents. It is ordinary to have contradiction between people who doesn’t resemble in anything, and refuse to deal on something .The idea of sectarianism took shape when the parties started appearing and became active and dynamic. As a result, people of the same religion, then from the same sect, joined the party it symbolized them as minorities and act like the other side is a foe. Moreover, the sectarianism for a particular sect and fanaticism for a specific idea, without accepting the other’s proposals and discussion, were a flame of a civil war in 1975. Although this war has ended nominally, it is coldly ongoing and only needs someone to feed it some gasoline. The bigotry and bias toward something rather than accepting the other’s differences is leading Lebanon to fall in abyss.
The tens unforeseen explosions and bombs in the last few years were and still a major reason for the anxious state of Lebanon. Lebanon has subsisted many murdering and assassination attempts for famous politicians and journalists. Consequently, beginning in 1975 till 2005, when Rafiq El-Hariri was assassinated, the series of attempted murder never finishes. Furthermore, the Syrian war and the power vacuum in Lebanon embolden for terrorists to diffuse profusely and perform all their unmerciful acts. Thus, several explosions in different regions of Lebanon resulted the death of twenties of innocent people who passed by that road by chance or they were fated to live there. Besides, the lack of effective decisions taken by the politicians, especially by the ministry of internal affairs and security, has propelled these explosions to take place weekly. Therefore, nothing has the ability to stop the terrorism movement in Lebanon and none has decided to take a firm resolution. The consecutive and frequent explosions budge the stable and earlier secure situation in Lebanon.
The miserable life Lebanese inhabitants are living is a momentous factor of classifying Lebanon into the category of insecure countries. Lebanese people are suffering from the joblessness and lack of equal opportunities among the workers and students. Accordingly, the bribery and nepotism is their only solution to get an earnest job. Students aren’t finding a suitable job after graduation and, if they do, it is based on a strong relation with a powerful person. In addition, the dramatic boost of living cost is complicating Lebanese’s life and make it harder to adapt with a new situation. Lebanese are working days and nights to pay for taxes, rent and house expenses. To exemplify the picture, most of goods have increased more than 50%, and the fuel is at the top of this list. Due to the absence of subsidizing and the fluctuation of the government, Lebanese are struggling to stay alive. Thousands of people have found the immigration as a permanent solution, others are entrenched in their home.
Lebanon is concerned as unsafe and unsecure country to dwell in or to visit since its inhabitants are always living in an endless war ignited by the envy and the extremism they carry in their hearts. Some Lebanese are non-biased but the “trendy” explosions oblige them to live the instable situation. Lebanese people are screaming and asking the world to find a solution for this elongated and disastrous circumstances they were living many years ago. However, every person is seeking for his/her own benefit and ignoring the future of their country. These selfishness, lack of integrity, and surrender for other external countries without being objective and humanist are responsible for the insecurity in Lebanon. Lebanon is losing its name on the honor list of top countries in Middle East. It is also losing its attractive qualities, annual tourists and lovable children. If all the Lebanese concert and cooperate as “all for one”, they will be able to save their country from the dismal status in order to improve their life and their sons’ future.
