Remy Rhayem:Air Pollution as a Fatal Problem

Air Pollution as a Fatal Problem As Gale (2014) has indicated, human beings rely on air to live and breathe, but they are responsible for making the air polluted. This issue is considered one of the major problems in Lebanon and some other countries. It is the most important problem that threat people every second. Air pollution results from many dangerous causes, and it leads to momentous effects. People and the government as well should move rapidly in order to stop it before it stops the humanity. In addition, people who contribute to increase the pollution must have a cruel punishment because they jeopardize everything on this earth. Air pollution has momentous influence on people’s life; it causes many health problems that put their lives in danger. Researchers say that air pollution is evaluated to cause approximately 2 million premature deaths worldwide per year (Bhola R. Gurjar, Luisa T. Molina, and Chandra S.P. Ojha, 2014). For that reason this issue must be stopped now. First, air pollution is caused by the smoke deliberated from cars and industries; “The smoke produced from these cars contains miniscule particles that escape into the atmosphere. These particles form black carbon, which is one of the most common forms of air pollution. Moreover, by burning fuel fossils, noxious gases will be released into the atmosphere such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide” (Gale, 2014). Thus, when a person breathes the polluted air, the dangerous particles come into his/her body, and they increase every day, so the function of the lung decreases gradually. As Ismail Abbas (Daily star, 2010) has mentioned, there is a study has shown that the risk of childhood cancer in Lebanon is raised because of widespread pollutants like the nitrogen dioxide which presents in the air. Furthermore, this issue causes troubles in the respiratory system such as difficulty breathing and coughing. In addition, air pollution has a bad influence in the nervous system counting the brain that can be totally affected because of the poisonous gases existing in the air. Polluted air also impacts severely the environment and the ecosystem as well. To begin with Global warming, also known as climate change is another momentous consequence of air pollution. An excess of carbon dioxide will exist in the air, so the temperature will increase making the climate hotter. For that reason, the ice in the two poles melt, the average of water will rise gradually, and many floods will occur (Gale, 2014). For instance, many floods have occurred this year because of the melting ice that leads to an increase in the oceans’ water, and especially the Asian region such as Japan and Philippine. Additionally, the ozone and its layer will be affected; the layer becomes thinner and weaker, so the ultraviolet rays enter to the earth. For that reason, the temperature will increase gradually and it affects the growth of animals and plants too (Environmental Encyclopedia, 2011). Therefore, the CO2 will not be absorbed regularly by the plants, and the ecosystem will be in danger. Some animals will die, and some rare animals will extinct. Moreover, these toxic pollutants form the acid rain that damages the trees, crops, lakes, oceans and the “aquatic life” at all such as fishes and plants under water. There are many people who are contributing in increasing the rate of air pollution; they are not concerned and focused how this issue is very hazardous. A group of these people is the crushers’ owners who don’t care about the environment and what happen with it; they only care about the money. Although they distort the beauty of nature and pollute the air, they don’t even rehabilitate the land. However, they continue working in bad situations, and they say, “We want to make money to live”. The most important thing that these people should consider is that they prefer money on their lives and their children’s lives. In addition, by making the air polluted, they increase the number of diseases, so they will be attacked by them and they will spend this money to get rid of the dangerous illnesses. As a result, they aren’t benefited from anything, but they jeopardize everything. Therefore, these works must have strict laws that put them between clear limits. In case of disrespecting these laws, rigorous measurements must be taken. In conclusion, agreeing to the information elaborated in this paper, air pollution influences all aspects of people’s health and the environment too. Therefore, people should move quickly to save their permanent lives and the life of the coming generation. The environment is the second house for citizens where they relax and take all their essential needs such as air, water, vegetables, meat and many others. Some people tend to forget how air pollution is injurious, and they are less focused about the future consequences. Moreover, the government must move quickly to limit losses. In contrast, it is not obliged to make new rules to decrease this problem, it can only apply the rules that aren’t respected (Ismail Abbas, 2010, the Daily star). In line with Ismail Abbas (2010), for example the government must apply annually tests for vehicles to be sure that they are safe and friendly to the environment. Consequently, people must take this problem more seriously because if they still at the same rate, an inevitable death is waiting for them, so they should be aware and find effective solutions from now before it’s too late.
