Remy Rhayem:Building the Character
Building the Character
Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” Working and participating in team sports is a virtuous experience that no one participates in and regrets after. It has a lot of benefits on people and the society as well. It leads to develop someone’s character in a good way; it teaches him/her the discipline, how to work and tolerate each other and how to have a good sportsmanship. Thus, the whole team works together in order to achieve its main goal.
Being a member in team sports teaches the participants the discipline, and what they have to do in order to respect the law and each other too. It clarifies to the participants the importance of respect between the members that organize one group and how they should be one hand in order to win or achieve their goals. In addition, It teaches them how to respect the time; in other words it informs them the importance of respecting the time and don’t be late to any meeting or training. Moreover, a member of a team should practice every day in order to be a professional athlete; and this daily training helps him to organize his/her life, and with time he/she won’t skip this organization. Thus, it makes self-discipline for his life. For example, the famous athletes who play basketball game practice every day in order to be much better in every game. Consequently, they organize their lives according to this style.
Rare people possess sportsmanship, and they rarely tolerate each other; everyone has his/her own problems, and he/she gets angry because of silly things. However, joining a team and especially a team concerned by sport contributes to plant the sportsmanship in the personality of every participant. In addition, it teaches them not only how to become a good leader and what they should do to lead, but also how to take direction from someone else and implement them without nagging. Many famous basketball players usually say in interviews on television that participating in team sports help people to know how to act and interact well with other. For example, while playing, they know from one look what they should do and which plan they have to undertake in order to get more points. Furthermore, all members take the directions from one leader which is the coach of the team who organizes everything and all respect him and his ideas. Thus, working in a team develops many important skills and stuffs that people must have in order to succeed and have better life.
Although all the beneficial things that team sports deliver to his member, there are many people who still believe that joining a team, like this one, is just for fun and there are no lessons can be learned from it. However, many sociologists and professional people say that participating in a team sports is for fun, but the participants learn new anonymous things which can be useful in their daily life. For instance, a football game player must be aware and know where and when he should give his colleague a quick pass in order to put a goal. This quick pass is the same thing as a quick decision that people must take in real life, but they should know the beat place and time to do it. Therefore, even the athletes are doing what they love and having fun, but they are also learning valuable lesson that can use them in their live.
Last but not least, teams and especially team sports help to build the character because they teach the discipline, how to respect others member who are in the same group and work together to achieve their main goal. Moreover, it teaches the members how to deal in some hard situations and shows them the importance of having sportsmanship. Therefore, the parents shouldn’t prevent their children from participating in these teams because like they learn in school important tasks, they will also learn much important tasks in these teams. In my opinion, the tasks learned in teams are more important and beneficial than the ones learned in school because people will use them more, and they affect their entire life and their social status.
